Rage Fall Try-Out Dates & Message From The Coach
avatar

Rage,

We have set two try-out dates for next year’s team:

  •           Nick will run a tryout on Wednesday, May 21st from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm.  This is a normal practice night and will be held on Field 7.
  •          Ash will run a tryout on Saturday, May 31st from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm.  As we get closer, we will send out the field location.

Last week was a tough week for kids missing practice.  While we know that we need to accommodate spring sports, we also need to be able to field enough kids so the trainers can run an effective practice.  If you have a baseball or lacrosse game on the same night as practice, please try to attend as much of the soccer practice as possible, even if it is 45 minutes.

Rage New Direction
avatar

Rage Parents,

After considerable thought, and in an effort to continue to improve the Rage, we have decided to move the team in a slightly new direction for the 2014 -2015 season.  We believe that it is in the best interests of the entire team to go to a “Trainer” led model. That is why last season, we submitted a request to the Roxbury Soccer Club for a change in bi-laws that would allow outside club coaches to coach our town teams.  We made a presentation to both the board and the RSC coaches and it passed at both levels.  While the Roxbury Soccer Club is not yet there, it is our belief that over the next year, they will begin to move in the direction of using professional coaches on more teams.

Why we are making this change:  It has been our goal from day one to create the best boys team to ever come out of Roxbury and to create a club like environment/experience at a town locale and price. Last year, we were successful in producing the first ever Roxbury Premiere Boys team. With this latest change, we will be bringing a PDA and Match Fit training/coaching protocol to our team.

It is our intention to have Ashley Nesbit and Nick Heinemann be the Trainers for the 2014 – 2015 season.  We feel that Ashley’s expertise as the Pope John Coach as well as a Match Fit Coach combined with Nick’s experience and PDA Coach credentials, give our kids a tremendous training opportunity that you rarely see in a town based program. By using both Trainers, it gives our team a blend of a Coach that knows our kids, as well as a new voice that can show kids another perspective.  As is occurring this season, the trainers will work closely together to develop a curriculum for the year and weekly training sessions that complement each other.

Under the Trainer led model, Ash and Nick will be responsible for the following:

Ø  Try-outs – they will conduct the try-outs and make all roster decisions.  Ash and Nick are in the process of coordinating two try-out dates and we will release them within the week.

Ø  Training – we will have Ash or Nick at all practices.  The only time the current Coach’s anticipate running practice is in the case of schedule conflicts, extra pick-up practices (i.e. occasional extra Saturday practice in the Fall and possible gym time in the winter).

Ø  Games – One Trainer will make the effort to be at every game and make all roster, position and playing time decisions.  There will be a few exceptions that will arise for a couple of games per season and highly likely during tournament weekends where the Trainers may have other obligations, in those games the current coaching staff will fill in.

While the budget for the team is not yet finished, the extra training will come at a cost.  For the 2014-2015 season, we expect total costs to run approximately $900 to $1,000 per player.  The anticipated yearly increase would be $150 to $250 per player.(this compares to the cost of most club teams which is between $2,500 – $3,500).  We feel strongly that this improved change will provide a local club environment at a fraction of the cost.

This concept is a work in progress and we may feel the need to make changes as we go.  As always, all decisions will be based on what we feel is best for the majority of all of the kids as well as any questions and concerns.

Important News Regarding Training/Practices
avatar

Rage,

Good news.  We are going to make some changes for our Spring training.  Our Tuesday training will be switched to Wednesday evening from 7:30 to 9:00.

In addition to our training sessions with Ash on Friday’s, Nick Heinemann will train the Rage on Wednesday’s.  Nick is going to work closely with Ash to ensure that he is reinforcing and continuing the curriculum that Ash has created to accomplish our training goals on a weekly basis.  We believe that the team will benefit from having some of New Jersey’s top Coach’s available.  As all of you know, Ash is both a MatchFit Coach and the Head Pope John-Boys Soccer Coach.  With  Ash and Nick, who is a PDA Coach, we will continue to leverage the training protocols of top organizations.

 Nicks Bio includes:

FA Level 2 (England) USSF ‘B’ License NSCAA Premier Diploma NSCAA Advanced National Diploma ‘Distinguished Pass’ PDA Gunners Assistant Coach US Club State, Regional and National Champions 2013 PDA Atletica U-14 girls Head Coach

PDA Strikers U-9 girls Head Coach PDA Summer Select small sided teams (Head Co-ordinator)

Nick’s previous experience also includes being a former professional in England and has had involvement with the New York Red Bulls training program.

One note, to have Nick (and many other trainers) coach in Roxbury, we have had to submit an amendment to the Roxbury Soccer Club in order to change the Club’s by-laws.  We expect the new by-laws to be approved and we will be able to move on with our plans.

Rage Practice and Training Sessions 2014
avatar

Rage,

Hopefully everyone had a great holiday. We are just a week away from winter training, so I thought I would give everyone an update so you can get everything in the Calendar. The Rage online calendar reflects our weekly Saturday training at Kozaks and the optional agility training at Athletic Republic for Tuesday nights. Once other activities (Friday night league and Tuesday night gym) are finalized they will be added to the calendar accordingly.

  •  Kozaks – We start this Saturday (1/11) and run each Saturday until March 15th. The only Saturday that we will not practice is February 15th (Presidents Day). Session runs from 8:30AM – 10AM
  •  Athletic Republic – For those of you that have decided to participate, we start next Tuesday (1/14) from 4:30 to 6:00. This is a sports and agility training class that will run for 10 weeks and cost $200. If you want to participate, please email me again to confirm.
  •  There is a 2nd option for extra training at Athletic Republic. On Monday’s from 7:30 to 9:00, Athletic Republic in conjunction with Nick Heinemann (my Daughters PDA Coach) will be running a split session (45 minutes Athletic Republic / 45 Soccer Training). We would need at least 5 kids interested and the cost would be $40.00 per session. We would not have to commit to 10 sessions. Please let me know if anyone is interested in this program.
      • Please let me know if you have any interest in either Athletic Republic workout options.  The Tuesday program is a definitely going to happen starting next week and the Monday program will only happen if we get enough people that are interested.
  •  Friday Night League – I have not yet finalized this League. If we do it, it will run on Friday Nights starting February 28th.
  • Tuesday Night Gym time – We have a gym reserved for Tuesday Nights from 7:00 to 8:00 at one of the schools. We will be using this space for small group sessions. Keeper training one week and first touch another week. We will let you know when this begins.

To summarize, Saturday is the formal team training and everyone is expected to attend, Friday Night League (if we do it) has been committed to by 13 of 15 players, Tuesday is optional at Athletic Republic and small group occasional practices in the gym. Monday is open to discussion.

Lastly, Dino will be sending out an email for winter payments. Please bring the payment of $250 to next week’s practice at Kozaks, because we need to pay for the rental time.

Concussion Baseline Testing
avatar

Concussion Baseline Testing will be taking place at Roxbury High School on Monday, April 28 from 7-8pm for players ages 10 and up.  Registration is $25 and involves a relatively short computer test.

Sign up via the link on the website:http://www.combatconcussiontestingmanagement.new.rschooltoday.com/

Many people think one has to lose consciousness (get knocked out) for aconcussion to occur.  This is not true.  In fact, the large majority of sports-related concussions do not involve a loss of consciousness.  Determining if an athlete has had a concussion can be difficult.

The baseline test allows the trainer and/ or doctors to better determine 1) if an athlete has a concussion and 2) If so, if it is safe to return to sports.

Please go to the Roxbury Soccer Club website for more information and to register.
